Deacon Michael Pascarella, Jr. grew up in Saint Lucy’s Parish (now closed), which was located in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. He is a graduate of Roman Catholic High School for Boys and earned a B.A. degree in criminal justice from Temple University, a master of science degree in criminal justice from West Chester University, and a master of arts degree in theology/Advanced Diaconal Studies from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.
In 2006, Deacon Pascarella began studies at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary and was ordained a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on June 2, 2012. He has been assigned to Epiphany of Our Lord Parish in Plymouth Meeting, PA, since that time.
In September of 2014, he was appointed to the position of Associate to the Vicar for Clergy for Permanent Deacons by the Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M., Cap., Archbishop of Philadelphia. In this capacity, Deacon Pascarella is responsible for managing the admissions program for the School of Diaconal Studies at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, as well as serving as the administrator regarding all post-ordination personnel matters, including the ongoing formation and spiritual care of approximately 300 deacons in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Prior to entering into full-time ministry, Deacon Pascarella enjoyed a 35-year career in law enforcement, most of that time as a probation officer. Deacon Pascarella’s law enforcement career included 27 years of federal service.
Deacon Pascarella is a member of the online adjunct theology faculty at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. He has also spent over 30 years as a volunteer firefighter, where he served as the president of his fire company and as their current chaplain. In addition, for many years, Deacon Pascarella has directed retreats at Saint Joseph’s-in-the-Hills, located in Malvern, PA. He has been married for nearly 40 years and has adult twin sons.
