TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18:
SPEAKER:
Sr. Rose B. Mulligan, IHM, Ph.D.
Professor of Chemistry
Chair, Department of Natural Sciences
Immaculata University
Immaculata, Pa.
Our speaker will introduce Philly Serra members and friends to Fiat Days, a vocation exploration program for high school girls and young women.
Sister Rose Muligan, IHM, Ph.D. will share her history and experience with this program, beginning with her introduction to Fiat Days in the Harrisburg (Pa.) Diocese in 2008, when high school girls asked for a vocations program to parallel the Quo Vadis Days offered to boys. Harrisburg’s vocation director responded with the Fiat Days Program and invited a religious sister to participate.
After several years, the Arlington (Va.) Diocese vocation director asked to visit Harrisburg’s program and soon created a Fiat Days Camp now conducted every summer. The Allentown (Pa.) Diocese and others followed. Programs are also now conducted by the Scranton (Pa.) and Richmond (Va.) dioceses. Variations of the program exist throughout the country — for example, in Missouri, Texas, California, Colorado — sponsored by specific communities of women religious.
The Fiat Days Program provides high school girls and young adult women with discernment retreats of prayer, activities, socialization, sports, and presentations to consider a religious vocation. Retreats vary in length and locations, and they often include follow-up events.
Sister Rose has attended the Harrisburg program several times and the Arlington program once, and she has assisted in coordinating the Allentown Fiat Days for the past 10 years.
Fiat is Latin for “let it be done,” and with reference to Our Lady’s response to the Archangel Gabriel.
We look forward to meeting Sister Rose and hearing about the Fiat Days Program.
We encourage you to share this invitation with pastors; parishioners; high school campus ministers; parish young adult group leaders; parish ministry, mission, and education directors; and others who could suggest the Fiat Days program to high school girls (Catholic schools, public schools, independent schools, homeschoolers) or young women interested in considering life choices that might include calls to religious life. Non-members would need to request single-meeting access* as noted above.
