TOPIC:
“Reaching Today’s Young Catholics”
GUEST SPEAKER:
Rev. Stephen P. DeLacy
Father DeLacy began his current ministry with youth and young adults in June 2021, following several years at the helm of the Vocation Office for the Diocesan Priesthood (2013-2021). He was ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal (then Archbishop) Justin Rigali in 2004. His earlier assignments included Parochial Vicar, Saints Peter and Paul Parish (West Chester, 2004-07) and School Minister at Archbishop John Carroll High School, Radnor (2007-10) and Pope John Paul II High School, Royersford (2010-13).
While leading the vocation office, Father DeLacy strengthened several existing programs and introduced others, all of which have generated keen interest and high reputation with middle schoolers, high school boys, and young men beyond high school and college. A particular achievement was his 2018 launch of the Philadelphia Catholic Scholars Program, a much-respected two-week summer residential program for rising high school juniors and seniors who are intellectually curious and seeking more in their academics than otherwise available at their high schools. Seminary faculty members and other scholars guide students in study, prayer, discussion, and writing on key themes in Catholic thought, such as faith and reason, as they delve into the works and perspectives of the giants of our Catholic intellectual heritage.
Father DeLacy attended Monsignor BonnerHigh School (now Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast High School), where he played soccer and basketball, and West Chester University, where he earned a baccalaureate degree in accounting. Following graduation, he worked for a year and taught CCD before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
His ministry in faith formationreaches out to boys and girls at all education levels and into their lives as young men and women. We invite you to join us onOctober 18to hear Father DeLacy discuss the dimension of programs and activities that the Office for Faith Formation with Youth and Young Adults shares with today’s young Catholics.
